Lost Creek Finys Mitchell

ILR # 235968

female  b. 11-23-2001

AndrewJackson x Snake River Dallys

Finys began life as a full-term, but dysmature and floppy baby. She grew into a stately classic female and we first leased her as a breeding female and then agreed to sell her to Sunora Farms. What nobody anticipated was that her first baby, Maya, would be as dysmature and floppy as Finys had been (we’d been informed that this was “unusual”) … and that she would not only refuse to wean Maya, but also lose her next pregnancy as a result. Like her dam, Finys is very ... ah ... difficult to handle when pregnant. We all agreed that this is not a set of traits to perpetuate, despite all of Finys's good qualities.

Finys returned to live here for almost two years (so Maya could finally be weaned) and is now back at Sunora Farms, where she is available as a nonbreeding packer with daugher Maya.

Finys is friendly, has a flawless standard Classic coat, and really moves out on the trail. However, she quickly becomes testy when approached too abruptly or treated to brusquely, and requires a handler sensitive to this aspect. Finys is also not show caliber.

Please email or call Sunora Farms if you are interested in Finys.

Finis Mitchell was an avid hiker, climber, outdoorsman, and wilderness advocate whose “stomping grounds” was the Wind River Range in Wyoming (a favorite packing area of ours). Finis declared that “We don’t stop hiking because we grow old — we grow old because we stop hiking.” A fine philosophy for llamas and humans alike! “Finys” is our Celtic (Welsh) adaptation of the Latin “Finis,” which is not actually a given name by tradition; it's Latin for “end” or “conclusion.” (Finys was Dallys’s last offspring for us.) She is quite the explorer and definitely has shown the potential to be a natural-born hiker and packer like her namesake.
